Salary: $22.61 - $26.02 per hour; earn up to $0.60/hour extra based on college-level credits.

Job DescriptionThis position involves working with and supervising students with special needs, primarily those with significant physical disabilities in a life skills classroom setting and additional school settings. The para educator works as part of a team with the special education teacher, other para educators, and specialists. Duties include educational instruction, diapering, feeding or tube feeding, lifting and positioning students, administering medication and/or catheterizing students with training, and maintaining documentation of student progress.
Conditionsof Employment
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to the application; official transcripts required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Complete Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, including employee‑paid fingerprinting.
- Obtain CPI training at the next available opportunity.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take all necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend required trainings, meetings, and any training directed by management.
- Demonstrate ability to address safety issues.
- Establish and maintain a cooperative, effective relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Approach assigned work professionally and contribute to teamwork.
- Command English language proficiently for verbal and written communication.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information, and respond to email.
- First‑aid certified or willing to acquire first‑aid training promptly.
- Ability and willingness to supervise students during transition periods.
- Training and experience in a life skills classroom.
- Recognition and implementation of behavior intervention strategies.
- Maintenance of student behavioral data and reporting to the IEP team.
- Ability to chase students with elopement issues.
- Willingness to feed and diaper children requiring assistance.
- Execution of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Demonstrate patience and ability to remain calm during crises.
- Physical ability to lift students up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Adaptability, flexibility, and independent work capability.
- Experience with students with moderate to severe disabilities.
- Cooperative team participation and positive evaluations.
- Excellent attendance and self‑discipline.
- Strong communication with parents and staff.
- Ability to cope with unpredictability, remain flexible, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to life skills students under teacher supervision.
- Follow teacher directions and implement data collection, classroom rules, setup, and specific student directives.
- Accurately record data and complete required paperwork.
- Support physical/health needs of students.
- Assist teachers with clerical and instructional tasks.
- Supervise and control student behavior for a safe learning environment.
- Supervise students during recess and interact with them while maintaining proximity.
- Assist specialists in supervising assigned students.
- Perform all duties in compliance with school district policies, including attending regularly.
- Perform other assigned duties.
