Job Description

This teacher will provide educational programs for students in Life Skills classrooms, preparing them for community integration and functional living skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR card.
  • Satisfactory Evaluations.
  • Completion of Safe Schools web-based training is required as a condition of employment.

Preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Life Skills, including developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Experience implementing legal requirements for special education, district policy, and procedures.
  • Ability to develop IEPs and standardized/inform assessments.
  • Ability to create curricula and instructional methods that meet special education student learning needs, including vocational training.
  • Willingness to provide personal care such as diapering and toileting of adolescents as needed.
  • Evidence of vocational/community transitional planning and coordination with community organizations within the past five years.
  • Successful teaching experience with moderately‑severely disabled students in the targeted age group within the past five years.
  • Experience with students with significant behavior disabilities.
  • Previous vocational experience or extended exposure.
  • Physical stamina to lift, assist with toileting, restrain, and keep pace with students.
  • Knowledge of Life Skills settings and maintaining a positive, productive learning climate.
  • Cooperative team player skill.
  • Team‑teaching experience within the past five years.
  • Strong performance evaluations and references.
  • Experience with inclusive settings.
  • Reliability and punctuality.
Responsibilities
  • Provide appropriate assessment of students in the moderate/severe/multiple disability range.
  • Provide vocational skill training programs.
  • Organize and conduct IEP meetings.
  • Prepare, implement, and supervise Individualized Transition Plans and Individualized Education Programs.
  • Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth.
  • Maintain proper records and facilitate required paperwork.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, school staff, students, community organizations, and work supervisors.
  • Provide opportunities for peer interaction with non-disabled students.
  • Maintain current IEPs and serve as an IEP case manager.
  • Manage time efficiently and be flexible to demands of the position.
  • Work with students in an enthusiastic, supportive, and consistent manner.
  • Meet physical needs of disabled students (toileting, feeding, clothing changes, medical device assistance).
  • Maintain classroom discipline and orderly program.
  • Use technology to support teaching and student management.
  • Oversee productive use of classroom para educators.
  • Teach direct instruction methods and individualized support, collaborate with general education teachers, and implement transition plans for post‑high‑school experiences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Standing, walking, pushing or pulling up to 26 lbs., kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, typing. Must lift or move up to 26 lbs. and sometimes lift overhead. Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from
-10°F to 100°F, withstand wet or humid conditions, and moderate noise level.
