Position: CL23004: Welding Technology Assistant - Tri-Tech

Welding Technology Instructional Assistant

The Tri-Tech Welding Technology Instructional Assistant supports the delivery and operation of the Tri-Tech Welding Technology program in alignment with Washington State requirements and Tri-Tech expectations. The program prepares students to be high performing entry-level welders and fabricators in the manufacturing and construction industries through a focus on welding, fabrication, critical thinking, teamwork, and leadership.

Working under the direction of the Welding Technology Instructor, the instructional assistant supervises and monitors student skill development, supports safe and efficient lab operations, and reinforces program expectations and industry standards.

Conditions of employment include:

  • High school graduate; transcripts of highest level of education required within 30 days of hire.
  • Able to perform the essential functions and meet the physical demands of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must pass a basic skills test or show verifiable evidence of ability to perform essential functions.
  • Completion of Safe Schools web-based training within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
  • Successful background check, including fingerprinting.

Qualifications required include:

  • Minimum two (2) years work experience in the welding, manufacturing, or fabrication industry.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • Current First Aid/CPR card, or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
  • Positive recommendations and evaluations in past and present jobs.
  • Evidence of excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; demonstrated ability to be self-disciplined and a self-starter.
  • Ability and willingness to be a team player in supporting and promoting the Tri-Tech Welding Technology program.
  • Ability to work effectively with high school–age students in a lab setting, reinforcing safety, procedures, and professional behavior.

Qualifications preferred include:

  • Current industry-standard knowledge of AWS D1 and familiarity with AWS/ASME/WABO related welding certifications.
  • Experience working with high school–age students in instructional or training environments.
  • Experience in manufacturing/construction career pathways or related trades.
  • Demonstrated success in maintaining a positive, productive learning climate with students and colleagues.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Work with individual students and small groups to support welding and fabrication skill development using instructor-developed lessons and procedures.
  • Assist in teaching and reinforcing safety within the program; model safe lab and industry practices and hold students accountable to safety requirements.
  • Help maintain safe, orderly, and clean lab facilities, tools, and equipment, including daily setup, cleanup, and organization of materials.
  • Monitor students during lab and classroom activities, supporting appropriate use of tools and equipment and reinforcing program expectations and professional conduct.
  • Support implementation of program health and safety standards, including use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop rules.
  • Assist the instructor with preparation of instructional materials, demonstrations, and labs as directed.
  • Use/learn basic computer technology (email, electronic attendance, documents/spreadsheets) to support program operations.
  • Perform all duties within Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality, and perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Tri-Tech Administration and/or Welding Technology Instructor.

Physical demands and work environment include:

  • Mobility: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arm.
