Position: 23294: Life Skills Teacher (1.0 FTE Con)(REPOST)

Life Skills Teacher

This teacher will provide educational programs for students in Life Skills class settings. The position will be focused on preparing students for successful community integration and functional living skills.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License
  • Valid First Aid and CPR card
  • Satisfactory Evaluations

Qualifications Preferred:

  • Demonstrated knowledge as it relates to Life

    Skills:
    • Ability to apply developmentally appropriate practices.
    • Ability to implement the legal requirements regarding special education, including district policy and procedures.
    • Standardized and informal assessment options and the ability to develop IEPs with a variety of disabled students.
    • Ability to develop curriculums and instructional methods that meet special education student learning needs, including vocational training.
    • Willingness to diaper and toilet adolescents as needed.
  • Evidence of satisfactory vocational/community transitional planning and coordination with community organizations for targeted age population within the past five years.
  • Successful teaching experience in planning and implementing programming for moderately - severely disabled students in the targeted age group within the past five years.
  • Successful teaching experience with students with significant behavior disabilities.
  • Previous vocational experience or extended exposure.
  • Physical stamina as required to lift, toilet, restrain, and keep pace with adult age students in the life skills program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge as it relates to the Life Skills setting:
    • Skills and interest in teaching students of all abilities (Life Skills).
    • Successful experience in maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom as well as positive communication links with parents and colleagues.
    • Ability to work as a cooperative team player within the department and school structure.
    • Evidence of successful team teaching experience within the past five years.
    • Satisfactory performance evaluations and references for the past five years.
    • Experience (knowledge) of beneficial inclusive settings.
  • Successful experience in working successfully in a team.
  • Punctuality and consistent attendance.
