Position Details
Title: Para/SS/Tier II Behavioral Program
Location: Canyon View Elementary School, Kennewick, Washington
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $22.61 – $26.02
Starting Date: Immediately

Job DescriptionThis position will involve working with students with behavior difficulties, supervising students who have special needs, and working as a team with special education teachers, other para educators, and specialists. Duties include carrying out educational instruction and training, documenting student progress, and performing all duties within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities- Provide direct support to special education students in the Tier II Behavior program.
- Provide support for physical/health needs of students as required.
- Assist teachers with clerical or instructional tasks.
- Assist with data collection.
- Implement prescribed behavioral intervention strategies.
- Supervise and control students to promote a safe, orderly, positive learning climate.
- Complete required paperwork accurately and efficiently to maintain compliance.
- Assist specialists (P.E., Music, Library) in supervision of special education students as required.
- Make parent contacts and attend student update meetings.
- Supervise students during recess times within the school day.
- Perform all duties within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures, including regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- AA degree, 72 quarter college credits, 48 semester credits, or passing ETS score.
- Attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent; official transcripts required within 30 days of hire.
- Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Meet the physical demands of the position.
- Pass a basic skills test.
- Complete Safe Schools Web‑Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Pass background check including employee‑paid fingerprinting.
- Obtain CPI Level I and II training at the next available opportunity.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend in‑service trainings and other meetings as required.
- Assess and correct safety issues.
- Establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, effective relationship with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Approach assigned work professionally toward teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command of English for verbal and written communication.
- Use basic computer programs for records, timecard entry, and email.
- Be first‑aid certified or willing to acquire training promptly.
- Supervise Development Therapy and general education students during recess and PE/music classes.
- Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Experience with behaviorally disabled students, early childhood and elementary level children.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Knowledge of intervention procedures.
- Model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent intervention procedures.
- Patience and warmth in working with students; remain calm during crisis.
- Awareness of multiple students and quick, good judgment response.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of IEP goals and objectives.
- Physically able to lift and/or restrain elementary‑aged students as needed.
- Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, dependability, self‑discipline, and self‑starter.
- Experience in "team teaching" situations.
- Ability to cope with unpredictability, be flexible, diplomatic, and cooperative; maintain composure in difficult situations; communicate effectively with a variety of people.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
