COMPLETION OF SAFE SCHOOLS WEB BASED TRAINING IS REQUIRED AS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT

Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in Special Education
  • Satisfactory Evaluations
  • Provide basic education assistance in core subject areas and prepare lessons
  • Evidence of at least one full year of successful school teaching experience documented with satisfactory evaluations within the last five years
  • Demonstrated success in managing and modifying disruptive student behaviors, executive functioning deficits, and social/personal/responsibility behaviors associated with students with Autism
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with MDT and Community Based Learning Sites
  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching the six trait writing model and math Common Core Standards to special need students
  • Participate in team teaching situations with general educators
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Experience utilizing computer technology for word processing, spreadsheet activities, presentation, grading, attendance recording, and e‑mail communication, and implementing these into daily classroom use
  • Ability to motivate and instruct students of all ability levels with emphasis on individualized learning styles in the regular classroom and integrated settings
  • Maintaining a positive, productive learning climate within the classroom, parents, and colleagues
  • Demonstrated leadership in professional activities related to special education
  • Experience developing career awareness in students, applying skills, aptitudes, and interests to researching specific careers
  • Punctual and consistent attendance
Responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the educational programming of students with autism in grades 9‑12 as placed by the district
  • Prepare for classes assigned and provide written evidence of preparation upon request
  • Participate in the development of an integrated curriculum with other curricular area classes and its implementation into instruction
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) including school‑to‑work transition components
  • Maintain current IEPs and monthly student information reports and serve as the IEP case manager for students on the caseload
  • Plan appropriate programs for students in conjunction with Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) members and parents
  • Write goals and objectives that facilitate and measure student growth
  • Regularly monitor student progress, making changes in programming if appropriate
  • Assume responsibility for the productive use of classroom educational assistants
  • Communicate regularly and proactively with students and parents regarding progress and behavior
  • Establish and maintain cooperative professional relationships with others
  • Attend and participate in faculty and team meetings
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student and family information
  • Consult with administrators, regular education teachers, community agencies, the court system, and specialists about the educational programming of students with disabilities, as appropriate
  • Work with school and district level experts in designing a personal, social, and responsibility program to best fit the needs of the students in the program
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Physical Demands
    • Stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull up to 50 lbs, sit, kneel, crouch, twist and bend, and use hands to type, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms
    • Communicate effectively in person and by telephone; possess close, far, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus
    • Lift or move up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs, including lifting overhead; may need to move quickly in an emergency or while supervising students
    Work Environment

    The work environment is outdoors in a wide range of temperatures from ‑10 °F to 100 °F+. Employees may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level is moderate.
