Job Description

Hire is open for a full‑time teacher to instruct Middle School students in English Language Arts and Spanish. The candidate will work within the Kennewick School District, specifically at Highlands Middle School.

Qualifications Required
  • Washington State Teacher’s Certificate with endorsements in K‑8 and Spanish
  • Satisfactory evaluations
Qualifications Preferred
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in English Language Arts at the middle level
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience in Spanish at the middle level (high school credit)
  • Proven experience using GLAD strategies
  • Experience working as a member of a professional learning community
  • Ability to create and analyze performance assessments to determine instructional effectiveness
  • Skill in organizing an appropriate behavior management system to promote a positive learning environment
  • Willingness to adopt MTSS strategies for classroom management
  • Punctual and consistent attendance
  • Experience identifying and implementing essential standards
  • Experience working successfully with at‑risk students
  • Effective communication with staff, students, and parents
Job Responsibilities
  • Design and provide instruction to meet students’ individual needs
  • Design and provide instruction using district‑adopted materials
  • Modify and scaffold lessons for students at all ability levels
  • Work effectively as a member of a professional learning community; demonstrate leadership through active participation in program, building and district staff training
  • Communicate student performance results, behavior concerns, academic progress, etc. regularly with parents, administration, and team members
  • Establish and maintain standards of student/classroom behavior to provide a supportive and productive learning environment
  • Demonstrate classroom management skills that allow for a safe and productive learning environment
  • Collaboratively prepare and support grade‑level and school programs and events
  • Collaboratively support students for district or community‑wide events
  • Work with staff in supporting and enhancing classroom activities
  • Work cooperatively with other staff to maintain a positive, disciplined, educationally sound learning environment for students
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands

Mobility – required to stand and walk for prolonged periods, push or pull 18–26 lbs., sit, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, use hands to type, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arm.

Sense – required to talk/hear conversations and other sounds; communicate effectively in person and over the telephone; taste and smell. Vision requirements include close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Lifting – required to lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; must also be able to lift overhead. May be required to move quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Work Environment – employee encounters a wide variety of temperatures; from –10°F to 100°F+. Employee may be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Noise level in this work environment is moderate.
