Position #23350: Para/SS/Tier II Autism Program
Location: Chinook Middle School, Kennewick, Washington
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $23.15 – $26.65 per Collective Bargaining Agreement (plus up to $0.60/hr based on college-level credits earned)

This position is based on student/program need and hours may increase or decrease as necessary.
Responsibilities include working with and supervising students with Autism who have significant special needs in general and special education settings. The para educator will collaborate with the special education teacher, other para educators, and specialists to deliver educational instruction, carry out training, and maintain documentation to monitor student progress. All duties are performed within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures.
Other job‑related duties may be assigned as needed.
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree or 72 quarter college credits or 48 semester college credits or a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach an unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to the application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.
- Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, and any training directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Demonstrate ability to approach assigned work professionally, with teamwork, pride in service delivery, and continuous improvement.
- Demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff and others regarding all aspects of job activities.
- Use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- First aid certified or willing to acquire first aid training as soon as possible.
- Physical ability and willingness to supervise students in Tier II Autism and general education students during recess, PE, and music classes.
- Proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Successful working experience with students with Autism.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of intervention procedures with students and data collection.
- Ability to model appropriate behaviors and provide consistent intervention procedures with students.
- Patience and warmth in working with students and ability to remain calm in crisis.
- Ability to be aware of several students involved in varying activities and respond quickly and with good judgment when appropriate.
- Maintain ongoing documentation of student IEP goals and objectives.
- Physically able to hold and/or restrain students as needed using CPI techniques.
- Positive performance evaluations and recommendations.
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and dependability; self‑disciplined and self‑starter.
- Successful experience in team‑teaching situations.
- Demonstrate flexibility, diplomacy, and cooperation with varied demands; maintain composure in difficult situations; communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
