Job Description

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Meet and instruct the students in the scheduled hours.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities to help facilitate prescriptive learning for all students.
  • Use Study Sync curriculum for ELA and the prescribed History curriculum.
  • Diagnose individual reading weaknesses and design specific learning activities to accelerate learning.
  • Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning within the limits of the resources provided.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of such preparation upon request from a supervisor.
  • Take all reasonable and necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Teach students to set and maintain high standards of behavior – develop and publish a classroom plan.
  • Maintain records as required by law, district policy and administrative guidelines.
  • Uphold and enforce school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Attend and participate fully in faculty and team meetings.
  • Assess student learning, work with PLC to design interventions and extensions.
  • Assess individual student progress toward learning objectives regularly using common formative assessments and other methods. Share data with PLC team to design appropriate interventions and extensions.
  • Use technology as an instructional tool. Teach students to use technology as a learning resource.
  • Participate fully in building staff development. Create and follow a personal professional growth plan.
  • Work to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues concerning the academic and behavioral progress of all students.
  • Establish and maintain collegial professional relationships with others.
  • Willingness to be trained and use the Kids at Hope framework, formative assessment, learning intentions, and differentiation.
  • Perform related duties as assigned by the administration.
  • Qualifications

    Required

  • Washington State Teacher’s Certificate with endorsements in English Language Arts and History or Middle Level Humanities or K‑8.
  • Satisfactory evaluations.
  • ** Preferred**

    • Reading endorsement or equivalent coursework.
    • History endorsement or equivalent coursework.
    • Successful middle school teaching experience documented by evaluations and references.
    • Willingness to comply with requirement to teach curriculum as implemented at the school site.
    • Evidence of success working with parents, students and staff members.
    • Evidence of success in working as a member of an instructional team to develop a cohesive and collaborative delivery of instruction.
    • Experience or training in cooperative learning, willingness to participate in Professional Learning Communities, use of technology integrated with instruction, alternative assessment strategies based on rubrics or other standards, teaching using integrated curriculum and themes, GLAD Training for second language learners.
    • Successful experience or willingness to include students with special needs into the regular classroom.
    • Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.
    • Evidence of successful alignment of the curriculum to meet state standards.
    • Evidence of successful classroom management and establishment of positive student/teacher relationships.
    • Punctual and consistent attendance.
    Physical Demands

    The job requires regular standing, walking, pushing or pulling objects up to 26 lbs., typing, reaching, and occasional lifts up to 26 lbs. The environment may involve temperature extremes from
    -10°F to 100°F, outdoor work, and moderate noise levels. Reasonable accommodations will be considered to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
