Job DescriptionPosition #23350: Para/SS/Tier II Autism Program
Location: Chinook Middle School
Hours: 6 Hours per Day, 180 Days per Year
Salary: $23.15 - $26.65 per Collective Bargaining Agreement
Earn up to $0.60 hourly extra, based on the number of college-level credits earned.

The position involves working with and supervising students with Autism, who have significant special needs in the general education and special education settings. The para educator works as part of a team with the special education teacher, other para educators, and specialists. Duties include carrying out educational instruction, training, keeping documentation to monitor student progress, and performing all duties within the scope of Kennewick School District policies and procedures.

- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Must have an AA degree OR 72 quarter college credits OR 48 semester college credits OR a passing score on the ETS test.
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving AA degree or equivalent to application. Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position.
- Must pass a basic skills test.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity. Level I and II required.
- Must uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.
- Must take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Must attend in-service trainings or other meetings as required, as well as attend any training as directed by management.
- Evidence of ability to assess and correct issues involving safety.
- Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative and effective relationship with students, parents, staff, fellow employees and management.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.
- Must be first aid certified or be willing to acquire first aid training as soon as possible.
- Physical ability and willingness to supervise students in Tier II Autism and general education students at recess and during PE and music classes.
- Evidence of proficiency in word processing and computer use.
- Successful working experience with students with Autism.
- Knowledge of prescribed instructional and behavioral management programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of intervention procedures with students and data collection.
