Safe Schools Web‑Based Training Completion is required as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities
  • Teach a variety of introductory art/drawing courses, including International Baccalaureate courses and/or students as assigned by the principal.
  • Participate as a team member of the visual arts department in a collaborative and cooperative manner.
  • Communicate regularly and positively with students and parents regarding student progress and behavior.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and productive learning environment.
  • Ability to teach in a second endorsement area.
  • Support and uphold all Kennewick High School rules and District‑wide policies.
  • Actively participate in an assist with the development of the art curriculum as part of a continuing evolutionary process.
  • Provide for art education to be integrated with other core subject learning across the curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
  • Valid current Washington State teaching certificate appropriate for high school with endorsement in Art.
  • Satisfactory evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement Washington State Essential Academic Learning Requirements for Art Education.
  • Endorsement in second core subject area.
  • Evidence of recent successful experience working with students in a multicultural educational setting, with a belief and desire to teach all students.
  • High school teaching experience in Art within the past five years.
  • Evidence of high standards in classroom management and student achievement.
  • Participate in departmental PLC, projects/activities, and school‑wide efforts to promote the arts.
  • Broad teaching repertoire, including instructional approaches for inclusion, differentiation, and standards based proficiency.
  • Willingness to provide opportunities for students interested in pursuing art as a career objective such as linking with local artists, Allied Arts Council, or developing professional portfolios.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
Physical Demands

Regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, push or pull 18-26 lbs., sit, kneel and crouch, twist and bend, use hands to type, and must be able to lift up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; may be required to move quickly in an emergency or while supervising students. Employees must work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures from –10°F to 100°F +.

The noise level is moderate.

In‑district staff must complete an internal online application by 10:00 p.m. (PST) on or before the closing date. Out‑of‑district applicants must complete the online District application and attach a letter of interest, resume, valid Washington state teaching credential, and copies of transcripts with degree posted. All hires are subject to a satisfactory criminal background check.
