Job Description

Program Goals
:
Develop high levels of proficiency in Spanish and English in all students, achieve WA State Seal of Biliteracy, meet grade‑level academic standards in both languages, and foster sociocultural competence.

Qualifications
  • Valid Washington State teacher’s certificate with endorsements in Elementary Education or K‑8.
  • Bilingual/Biliterate in Spanish (must pass STAMP).
  • Satisfactory evaluations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of motivating and instructing students of all ability levels with emphasis on individual learning styles, documented by evaluations and/or references.
  • Evidence of maintaining a positive, productive learning climate in the classroom, home, and with colleagues, documented by evaluations or references.
  • Recent experience with culturally diverse elementary students, documented by evaluations or references.
  • Recent coursework (within last 5 years) in reading/language arts, social skills, and science.
  • Effective communication with school staff, parents, and students.
  • Training or experience in the use of GLAD.
  • Training or experience in biliteracy strategies.
  • Training or experience in biliteracy teaching (English/Spanish) or willingness to attend such training.
  • Experience using RTI model and expectations with a broad range of ability levels.
  • Teamwork in planning, curriculum development, grade‑level duties, and building responsibilities.
  • Use of technology as an instructional tool.
  • Experience administering assessment tools—WIDA, Star performance assessments—with rubric.
  • Experience or training teaching writing to elementary level students.
  • Punctual and consistent attendance.
Responsibilities
  • Work specifically to prepare students for building, district, and state assessments.
  • Prepare class assignments and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Provide an effective program of instruction aligned with school language and content allocation and grade‑level standards.
  • Use Purpose, Engagement, Rigor, and Results (PERR) in daily planning and instruction.
  • Be a team player by establishing and maintaining cooperative, accountable professional relationships.
  • Maintain open communication lines with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules and administrative regulations.
  • Attend and participate in faculty in‑service trainings and committee meetings.
  • Cooperate with staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Encourage parent involvement and maintain good relationships with parents.
  • Explore and implement new curriculum and teaching strategies as identified through building/grade‑level adoption.
  • Value a multicultural school population; work well with students and parents of diverse cultures.
  • Support district and building goals by participating in planning, training, and evaluating programs, grants, curriculum, and teaching methodologies (e.g., biliteracy training, GLAD).
  • Assess students in reading, math, and writing as directed by district and school assessment plans.
  • Provide specific reading remediation as determined by assessment tools.
  • Be flexible in schedule changes to accommodate staff and community faculty usage.
  • Maintain good classroom management.
  • Work collaboratively with para educators and other teachers to devise appropriate instruction for all students.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands

Mobility: Regularly required to stand and walk for prolonged periods, push or pull 18‑26 lbs., sit, kneel, crouch, twist, bend, use hands to type and handle tools, reach with hands and arm.

Sense: Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone; talk/hear conversations; taste and smell; proximal vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Lifting: Lift or move up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs.; may lift overhead.

Work Environment: Outdoor work in a wide variety of temperatures (−10 °F to 100 °F+); exposure to wet/humid conditions; moderate noise level.
