Substitute Teacher

This position will involve working as a substitute/on-call teacher to assist schools on a program need basis. The positions will be varied, and may include instruction with basic education and disabled students in self contained and regular education settings, and performing other job-related duties as assigned. Required qualifications to perform this job successfully include:

• Valid Washington State teacher's certification.
• Ability to cope with unpredictability.
• Flexibility, diplomacy, and cooperation.
• Following the teacher's lesson plan.
• Modeling appropriate behavior.
• Demonstrating patience, enthusiasm, and a positive attitude toward working with students with disabling conditions.
• Maintaining composure in difficult situations.
• Valuing the confidential nature of sensitive student information.
• Successful experience working with school-aged children.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work with a variety of people.
• Ability to follow directions in a team situation.
• Willingness to work with all children within the school regardless of abilities.
• Satisfactory evaluations.
• Submit application along with the following documents:
• Copies of college transcripts (official not necessary unless hired)
• College placement file and/or three current letters of recommendation
• Copy of your Washington State teaching certificate
• Must comply with and successfully implement the policies and procedures of the Kennewick School District.
• Punctuality.

Physical demands include:

• Mobility:
  Standing and walking for prolonged periods of time, pushing or pulling 18-26 lbs., sitting, kneeling, crouching, twisting, bending, using hands to type, finger, handle, or feel; and reaching with hands and arms.
• Sense:
  Talking/hearing conversations and other sounds, communicating effectively in person and over the telephone, tasting and smelling, and specific vision abilities including close vision, far vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• Lifting:
  Lifting or moving up to 10 lbs. regularly and occasionally up to 26 lbs; lifting overhead. Physically moving quickly in an emergency or while performing student supervision duties.

Work environment characteristics include:

• Physical hazards:
  Working outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures; from
  -10 degrees F to 100 degrees F +. Exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. Moderate noise level.
