Do you enjoy mixing office-based work with getting out in the field and tackling hands‑on, on‑site projects? Benton PUD is looking for an Engineering Technician to support our customer engineering team through mapping, drafting, and facilities management using GIS and AutoCAD. This role is ideal for someone with a strong design background who enjoys working with GIS data, creating accurate drawings, and supporting utility operations by working collaboratively in the office and on‑site in the field.
You'll help maintain system maps and records, produce GIS and CAD drawings, support surveying efforts using GPS equipment, and collaborate with engineers, designers, and operations staff. Position Purpose/SummaryThe primary purpose of this position is to provide mapping, drafting and facilities management using the District’s GIS system and AutoCAD.
AdvancementThis position is part of a career path for employees in Customer Engineering that includes multiple steps which must be completed satisfactorily within set time frames. When a business need exists and an opening is made available, it is the intent that any Engineering Technician who has completed all required steps will bid for advancement to a Distribution Design Technician position.
Advancement of the most senior qualified Engineering Tech may be required if a posted position does not receive a qualified bidder.
- Support the District's mission to serve our customers and foster a positive workplace by personally choosing behavior aligned with our values and ethical code.
- Ensure the accuracy of District maps with respect to property, customer data, electrical and broadband facilities and equipment by reconciling information gathered from various District documents, processes, and people.
- Maintain complete records of work orders, permits, property, and easements by drawing, scanning, posting, and inputting data and related information into the GIS, CIS, and Financial systems.
- Support District operations by running pre-defined queries and producing comprehensive map products using GIS applications.
- Produce timely and accurate survey information, such as locating property boundaries, corners, section marks, monuments, as well as topological survey products including the creation of plan and profile by using GPS and traditional survey equipment.
- Deliver accurate and timely records to internal and external customers by using GIS/AutoCAD systems to produce and update drawings of substations, construction standards, equipment, and building layouts.
- Support providing customer electrical service by anticipating needs, resolving minor field problems, conducting trench and temporary service inspections, and maintaining current knowledge of District rates, policies, NESC, WAC, basic electrical theory/application.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet team, department and organizational goals.
Required
AAS -- Engineering Technology, Geographical Information Systems, or related technical degree program; relevant experience and college level coursework may substitute for degree.
