Job Overview
APTIM is seeking a mid-level Safety and Industrial Hygiene Professional to task lead health and safety programs within a multidisciplinary R&D laboratory environment. Working under the direction of a Senior Safety Profession, this position will independently execute assigned technical work, provide day-to-day guidance to laboratory personnel, and help mentor a junior industrial hygiene professional. The ideal candidate combines strong technical knowledge with practical leadership skills and can translate complex safety requirements into effective, research-friendly solutions.
We are searching candidates to support the Seattle area.
- Provide day-to-day laboratory safety and industrial hygiene support under the direction of a Senior Safety Professional, including inspections, risk assessments, exposure evaluations, corrective action tracking, and technical consultation.
- Evaluate R&D activities and recommend practical engineering, administrative and PPE controls.
- Plan and conduct IH assessments and sampling, prepare technical reports for senior review.
- Support technical IH work such as exposure assessments, air monitoring, risk assessments, hazard evaluations, control recommendations, and regulatory compliance support.
- Evaluate workplace environments for potential chemical, physical, and biological hazards
- Maintain and update laboratory-specific standard operating procedures, job hazard analyses, inspection checklists, training materials, and emergency-response procedures.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior safety professionals, review assigned work products, and support compliance with OSHA requirements.
- Bachelor's degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety, environmental health, public health, chemistry, biology or closely related field.
- 8-12 years of relevant safety, industrial hygiene, laboratory, research experience.
- Experience supporting R&D laboratories, technology development, biotech, or another technically complex environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of occupational safety and health principles and laboratory chemical hazards.
- Experience with industrial hygiene sampling methods and monitoring equipment.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment and work safely in laboratory, testing, and equipment areas.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong computer skills required. Must have proficiency in Microsoft applications such as MS Excel, MS Word, SharePoint Online, etc.
- Ability to work onsite in the greater Seattle area at least three days per week and respond to laboratory needs during scheduled onsite hours.
- Working car and willingness to travel locally between laboratory locations.
- Prior laboratory experience
- Familiarity with OSHA laboratory and hazard communication requirements.
- Hazwoper Certified
