We are seeking an experienced Professional Engineer to join our Surface Water Resources Group in Kennewick, Washington. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of agricultural irrigation, surface water, water, and wastewater infrastructure projects throughout southeastern Washington and the surrounding region. As a key member of our team, you will play an important role in planning, design, permitting, and construction administration for agricultural and municipal infrastructure projects.
You will collaborate with clients, agencies, contractors, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, high‑quality solutions that support communities and agricultural operations.
Provide design services for civil projects including irrigation, river intakes, lagoons, dams, and small public water systems within southeastern Washington and surrounding region. This includes large steel pipe and outlet reinforcing design, river intake screen design, pump selection for river and booster pump stations with multiple pumps operating in parallel, design of single and double lined lagoons, design of small public water systems, permitting for in-water work, permitting for dam safety, hydraulic calculations and modeling of on-farm irrigation systems.
Key Responsibilities- Play a key role in all phases of project development, planning, design, and construction administration.
- Analyze engineering data, prepare plans and specifications, and make sound engineering decisions to solve client challenges.
- Analyze engineering data, prepare technical memoranda, reports, plans, specifications, and cost estimates, and make sound engineering decisions to address client challenges.
- Collaborate with the Kennewick Surface Water Resources Group and multidisciplinary teams across J-U-B to deliver successful design and construction projects for clients.
- Coordinate permitting and regulatory requirements, including in-water work permits, dam safety permitting, and other local, state, and federal agency approvals.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with clients, contractors, consulting partners, and regulatory agencies throughout project delivery.
- Organize and facilitate meetings with project stakeholders, including clients, agencies, contractors, and consulting partners.
- Utilize engineering and design tools such as AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microsoft Office, hydraulic modeling software, and related applications to communicate engineering solutions through reports, presentations, technical memoranda, correspondence, and verbal communication.
- Support project management activities including scope development, budgeting, scheduling, quality control, and project delivery.
- Mentor junior staff, contribute to technical development within the team, and support client relationship management and business development efforts.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure in Washington or Oregon, or ability to obtain Washington licensure through reciprocity.
- 10-15+ years of civil engineering experience related to agricultural irrigation, surface water, water, wastewater, or civil infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of project permitting and regulatory processes.
