The Physical Therapist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats patients with physical impairments to improve mobility, reduce pain, and enhance quality of life. Working in hospitals, clinics, or rehabilitation centers, they create personalized treatment plans using exercise and manual therapy to help patients recover and become independent.
Essential Work Functions- Evaluate patients’ conditions with tests, examinations, and history to identify functional limitations.
- Develop personalized rehabilitation programs based on assessment findings and patient goals.
- Implement treatment plans using techniques to improve mobility and reduce pain.
- Operate specialized physical therapy equipment and modalities safely and effectively.
- Assess patient progress, adjust plans, and accurately document evaluations, interventions, and outcomes.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs, body mechanics, injury prevention, and self‑management.
- Maintain a safe treatment environment adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
- Engage in quality assurance initiatives and professional development activities.
- Participate in discharge planning to ensure smooth transitions to community or home settings.
- Perform other duties as assigned within scope of practice.
- Critical thinking, service excellence, good interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
- Proficient with written and verbal instructions, basic PC skills.
- Physical abilities: remain stationary, move about, lift 50–100 lbs, push, pull, bend.
- Interpersonal skills: work effectively with diverse personnel.
- Technical/motor skills: grasp, fine manipulation, operate equipment.
- Mental requirements: cope with public contact, work under pressure, meet deadlines.
- Sensory: visual acuity and effective communication.
