Benton PUD is seeking an HR Generalist who leads with integrity, exercises sound judgment, and approaches their work with initiative and creativity. This role is well suited for a self-driven professional who takes ownership, identifies opportunities for improvement, and delivers thoughtful, practical solutions.

This position supports a broad range of human resources functions. Initial responsibilities will be in benefits administration, leave management, policy interpretation, and day-to-day HR guidance, progressively taking on additional generalist duties. The successful candidate will move confidently between employee support and strategic partnership with supervisors and managers on workplace matters requiring discretion and sound decision-making.

Range for Human Resources Generalist II: $78,218 to $111,740 (Hiring Target Range is $78,218 to $93,117)

Range for Human Resources Generalist III: $94,644 to $135,2060 (Hiring Target Range is $94,644 to $112,672)

The primary purpose of this position is to partner with employees, leaders and external resources in the professional administration of the recruiting and selection process, classification and compensation, training and development, employee and labor relations, benefits and wellness programs, leave management, and other human resource programs and projects as assigned.

Accountabilities
  • Support the District’s mission to serve our customers and foster a positive workplace by personally choosing behavior aligned with our values and ethical code, and communicating in a professional, respectful and courteous manner.
  • Ensure timely, accessible and cost-effective leave of absence management by proficiently administering all aspects of medical, military and other leaves and work-related illness/injury claims; providing leave case management expertise; assisting employees and communicating with management as the situation warrants; and facilitating resolution of accommodation requests.
  • Ensure timely and effective hiring and promotion processes by administering all aspects of the internal and external staffing process; consulting with department hiring managers to define business needs, recruiting, sourcing, advertising and selection criteria; coordinating selection testing; coordinating interview and relocation travel consulting with management and participating in the interview and selection decision process; coordinating background checks; drafting offer letters for final approval;

    ensuring appropriate retention of applicant data; and providing metric reporting.
  • Support external recruiting activities by identifying talent sources; participating in job fairs; and building relationships with local schools, universities and vocational/trade programs.
  • Administer classification and compensation programs by conducting and participating in wage and salary surveys, compiling technical data, providing analysis and recommendations to management, updates to the salary administration plan, creating and updating job descriptions.
  • Develop and implement supervisory and employee training programs, which are compliant with Federal and State requirements by evaluating the appropriateness of conducting in-house training programs or procuring experts to provide desired training programs.
  • Ensure the District’s benefit and wellness programs are accessible, timely, and compliant by administering all health and welfare, life insurance, disability related benefits, pension/defined benefits, deferred compensation benefits and other District benefit and deferred compensation programs; ensuring clearly documented administrative procedures related to all benefits programs; serve as the District’s CWPU UIP representative; leading activities related to District benefit and wellness contracts, issuance and renewal;

    and provide regular benefit information to ensure HR staff, management, and employees are informed as applicable.
