Job Description

The person in this position will perform general grounds work including but not limited to mowing, weeding, trimming, cleanup, street/parking lot sweeping, tree and shrub trimming. They will operate, repair and maintain mowing machines, trimmers, edgers, tractors, and other grounds equipment. They will operate, maintain, and repair sprinkler systems, underground piping systems, pumps and controllers; and perform other job related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position as indicated by taking and passing a physical capacity exam after job offer and before employment begins.
  • Must pass a basic skills test.
  • Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within 30 days of employment and yearly thereafter.
  • Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
Qualifications Required
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a grounds maintenance operation with multiple locations. Or, minimum one (1) year on the Kennewick School District grounds crew as a 9/3 split grounds/custodial employee.
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicators License.
  • Demonstrate the high degree of skill and knowledge expected of a journey level trades worker in the responsibilities listed under the headings "Essential Duties and Responsibilities", General Requirements, "Physical Demands", and "Work Environment".
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, sub-tract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Washington State Driver's License with a clear driving record. (Applicant will be required to provide a current abstract of their driving record.)
  • Willingness to comply with district board policies and established programs.
  • Evidence of ability to operate computers and a Computerized Maintenance Management System. (CMMS)
  • Evidence of ability to be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve.
  • The ability to assess and correct issues involving safety; read and interpret plans, construction drawings, and blueprints.
  • Ability to work flexible hours at times, respond to emergencies, willingness to work overtime.
  • Physically able to do the required work, including: heavy and sustained lifting of more than 35 lbs., squatting, bending, stooping, carrying, climbing of ladders, and other functions that are physically difficult and demanding.
  • Show a history of dependability and punctuality, along with positive evaluations and recommendations.
  • Evidence of ability to organize and prioritize in order to meet the district's needs and deadlines.
  • Evidence of ability to determine the scope of work and materials needed, and make cost estimates for projects.
  • Evidence of ability to establish and maintain a tactful, cooperative, and effective relationship with fellow employees, shop lead persons, district staff, and administrators.
  • Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement.
Qualifications Preferred
