Travel Nurse Source is collaborating with Magnet Medical to place a Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse in Kennewick, Washington.
The RN in Labor & Delivery provides comprehensive care to women during labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period.
The role requires skill in managing routine and high‑risk pregnancies, monitoring fetal and maternal well‑being, and assisting with deliveries while collaborating with obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists, and other health professionals.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and monitor pregnant patients at various stages of labor, including history, vital signs, and physical assessments.
- Perform non‑stress tests, monitor fetal heart tones and uterine activity for labor progression.
- Educate patients on labor processes, pain management options, and what to expect during childbirth.
- Monitor labor progress through contractions, cervical dilation, fetal heart rate, and maternal vitals.
- Administer medications such as epidurals, Pitocin, and pain relief, monitoring their effects.
- Provide continuous emotional support and pain management, using comfort measures (positioning, breathing techniques).
- Assist with amniotomy and other procedures as directed by the team.
- Assist obstetricians or midwives during vaginal deliveries, providing instrumentation assistance and newborn care.
- Participate in cesarean sections, maintaining sterile field and assisting newborn care.
- Perform neonatal resuscitation and initial newborn assessment post‑delivery.
- Monitor maternal and newborn recovery in the immediate postpartum period, assessing vitals, bleeding, and uterine tone.
- Support breastfeeding, teaching latch techniques, positioning, and infant care.
- Provide education on postpartum recovery, self‑care, and newborn care (diapering, bathing, illness recognition).
- Document all assessments, interventions, medications, and progress accurately in the electronic health record.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, neonatologists, and other team members to plan individualized care.
- Communicate progress, potential complications, and options, ensuring informed consent when necessary.
- Follow infection control procedures and ensure sterile equipment and instrumentation.
- Recognize and respond to complications such as fetal distress, preeclampsia, hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, uterine rupture, and neonatal resuscitation.
- Advocate for patient preferences and informed decision‑making.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Washington.
- Certification in BLS (Basic Life Support).
- Competency in Labor & Delivery (L &
D) – proven experience or training. - Ability to work 12‑hour shifts within a 3‑day schedule.
- Strong knowledge of obstetric protocols and emergency response.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to infection‑control and patient safety standards.
