JOB DESCRIPTION
Following the Health Services program direction and in collaboration with the Certificated School Nurses, Student Support Nurses provide professional health care to students to prevent, identify, and/or remediate health problems which may impair learning, social adjustment, or emotional well-being of students. Student Support Nurses may be assigned to an individual student or to a school.
Student Support Nurses assigned to a student or students in a classroom setting will be required to fulfill the job duties of a para educator while remaining medically vigilant of the student(s) under their care.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT- Completion of an accredited nursing program (Practical Nursing Certificate, ASN or BSN)
- Current RN or LPN licensure with the appropriate State Board
- Experience in nursing duties with children is preferred
- CPR and advanced First Aid Certification required
- Must attach unofficial transcript proving certification or degree to application.
Official transcripts of all levels of education, including high school, required within 30 days of hire. - Must pass basic skills test.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Must be able to meet the Physical Demands of the position.
- Completion of Safe Schools Web Based Training within thirty (30) days of hire and yearly thereafter.
- Must pass a background check, which includes employee paid fingerprinting.
- CPI training must be obtained at the next available opportunity, if required.
- Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to develop positive relationships with students, parents, staff, medical care providers and other community members.
- Ability to maintain health records and confidentiality of students, parents and staff members.
- Must be detail oriented with excellent record keeping ability and clerical skills.
- Ability to respond to and handle emergency situations in a calm, professional, effective manner.
- Ability to work with students with a wide range of behaviors, emotional disabilities, and medical conditions.
- Evidence of ability to approach assigned work in a professional manner, working toward the common goal of teamwork, pride in service delivery and continuous improvement
- Must demonstrate sufficient command of the English language to communicate verbally and in writing with students, parents, district staff members and other concerned people regarding all aspects of their job-related activities.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to maintain records, enter timecard information and read and respond to email.

- Coordinate with Certificated Nurses in the management of the assigned school's health services program following requirements established by school district’s policies, procedures, and protocols, and by local, state and federal regulations and statutes.
