Do you take pride in keeping heavy-duty vehicles and equipment running safely and efficiently? Benton PUD is looking for an experienced Mechanic to keep our trucks, bucket rigs, and construction equipment running strong and safe.
This is hands-on work maintaining and repairing gas & diesel vehicles, aerial equipment, and hydraulics for a team that keeps the lights on for our community.
We are looking for a candidate that has the following:

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that the District's fleet is working efficiently, safely and in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations by completing highly skilled mechanical work in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel powered fleet cars, trucks, construction equipment, aerial devices, trailers and other power operated equipment, working under the direction of the Mechanic Foreman;
and provide assistance to Warehouse to meet business needs.

- Develop and maintain a working knowledge and comply with District safety procedures and requirements of this position in accordance with federal, state and local regulations.
- Provide professional customer service to internal customers by addressing and investigating operator notifications of damaged and/or malfunctioning automobiles, trucks or other equipment.
- Ensure the fleet is functioning properly by conducting timely routine maintenance including minor and major tune-ups and repairs on all types of vehicles and construction equipment.
- Perform overhauls and services to assemblies and accessories, such as engines, axles, transfer-cases, multi-speed transmissions and controls systems including compressed air vacuum and electric controls.
- Perform annual inspections on aerial devices such as bucket trucks, digger derricks and cranes in compliance with OSHA and ANSI standards and regulations.
- Ensure that hydraulic and air brake systems, cooling systems, and steering and suspension systems are functioning properly by performing diagnosis and repair as needed.
- Create daily job plans using manuals, technical charts, schematics and experience.
- Perform light to heavy duty diagnosis, troubleshooting and repairs of hydraulic systems, such as pumps, valves, hoses and other components. May design and fabricate hydraulic systems.
- Perform on board computer diagnostic evaluation and electrical system troubleshooting.
- Contribute to the delivery of the department's goals by assisting other Mechanics and assuming allocated tasks in support of team members as required.
- Support the continuity of business operations by providing assistance to the Warehouse department in receiving, issuing, storing and inventory of warehouse materials. This work will be assigned based on lowest seniority.
- Complete other duties as assigned to meet team, department and organizational goals.
Minimum Qualifications, Experience and Certifications
- AA in Automotive and Diesel Mechanics, equivalent combination of directly related additional education, experience and training may substitute for a degree.
- 5 years experience as a gas and diesel mechanic, with experience in welding, fabrication and hydraulics.
- Primary residence within 20 miles of Headquarters
- Fluid Power Society Certification as Mobile Hydraulic Mechanic or obtain within 12 months of hire
- 7018 Stick All Position Welding Certification required to advance to Step 3
- Must posses and maintain a WA State driver's license; CDL Class A endorsement
- Must possess and maintain a Valid First Aid Card or obtain within 12 months of hire
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to use web-based systems and Microsoft Office applications
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems and schematics including complex electro hydraulic and remote control systems
- Ability to repair and perform adjustment on hydraulic components
- Knowledge of the operation, repair and adjustments of aerial lifting devices, including bucket trucks, digger derricks and cranes
- Ability to perform welding, cutting, fabricating and refurbishing applications using various machine tools and welding equipment
