Job SummaryThe substitute school bus driver will transport students and other authorized persons on regular routes to and from school, and on field, extracurricular, and special or extra activity trips as authorized by the school district officials. Successful driver applicants will be trained to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Responsibilities- Transport students and authorized persons on regular routes and trips.
- Operate a school bus on scheduled routes and all types of trips.
- Maintain and update route sheets; communicate changes to dispatch and management.
- Service, inspect, and clean school buses and related equipment per policy.
- Operate safely in all weather conditions.
- Maintain control of student passengers and report unsafe acts or conditions.
- Complete required forms, records, and reports as specified by state and local policies.
- Comply with Kennewick School District policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as directed by management.
- Minimum age of 21 with at least 5 years of driving experience.
- High School Diploma, GED, AA, BA, or equivalent educational background.
- Must pass a background check including fingerprinting.
- Must possess or be willing to obtain a CDL Class B with passenger endorsement, school bus endorsement, and removal of the air brake restriction.
- Must pass a basic skills test and be First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification within 30 days of employment.
- Must complete Safe Schools Web‑Based Training within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
- Must have at least two supervisory references indicating satisfactory skills and abilities.
- Must be able to pass a yearly bus evacuation drill and meet the physical requirements of removing children from the bus.
- Must demonstrate command of the English language for verbal and written communication with students, parents, staff, and management.
- Must be able to use basic computer programs to manage route sheets, enter timecard information, and respond to email.
- Previous experience with young people is preferred.
Position Type:
Part‑Time. Salary: $20.63 to $21.65 per hour.
