Position: Child Care Workers, Casual (Group Home)
Location: Kenora

There are (3) casual vacancies available that will help to support the Valley Drive Group Home. The successful candidates must be able to work shift work, including evenings, nights, and weekends. Shifts are 12 hours in length, from 7:00 to 7:00. Child Care Workers may work alone with 1-2 youth or as part of a Team with up to 6 youth.

The Child Care Worker (CWW) is responsible for the daily care and direct supervision of the youth placed in a staffed resource unit. The CWW creates a physically safe and emotionally nurturing environment designed to assist the youth in learning to cope and function positively, both in the home and in the community. Duties may include, but are not limited to, preparing meals, helping youth maintain good hygiene, organizing and actively participating in activities;

keeping records of progress, routines, and interests; providing transportation as needed; assisting with activities of daily living while following all relevant legislation and Agency policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Ability to demonstrate the skills and behaviours of a mature and responsible adult role model.
  • Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, and First Nations culture is an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and problem-solving skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Ability to work in stressful, high-pressure situations.
  • Proficient in computer software applications including MS Office, and database programs.

Qualifications:

  • Child Care Worker or Child & Youth Worker Diploma or higher is preferred.
  • 1-2 years of experience in a group home setting or related child care experience.
  • Must be medically fit to work in a group home setting with proof of immunizations.
  • Applicants with similar academic qualifications and related experience may be considered.
  • First Aid/CPR, NCI/CPI, ASIST, SOGIE training preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and have access to a vehicle with an OPCF6A Insurance endorsement and minimum of $1,000,000 Liability.
  • Satisfactory Broad Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, Internal Records Check, and Drivers Abstract are REQUIRED.
