Utility and Machine Operator

Make an impact where you live and work! The Municipality of Sioux Lookout is hiring a Utility & Machine Operator 1 to help keep our community running year-round. This hands‑on role includes operating equipment, supporting water and wastewater systems, responding to service calls, and assisting with road maintenance and snow removal. • Operate, maintain, and repair Municipal water distribution, sanitary collection, and stormwater systems.
• Perform inspections, installations, and repairs on valves, hydrants, meters, service lines, and other utility infrastructure.
• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment, including backhoes, loaders, sweepers, and flusher trucks.
• Respond to utility emergencies, service issues, and perform preventative maintenance programs.
• Maintain inventory of parts and materials, including sourcing, procurement recommendations, and tracking usage.
• Record work completed, report safety or equipment concerns, and support safe and respectful workplace practices.

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent with relevant certifications (Level 1 Water Operator, Water Meter Installer, DZ license)
• Strong knowledge of water distribution and wastewater collection systems and municipal maintenance practices.
• Skilled in safe operation of machinery, tools, and equipment, including adherence to health and safety standards.
• Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work, providing guidance and mentorship to others.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with tactful public interaction.
• Commitment to continuous learning and keeping current with legislation, technologies, and best practices.

Salary is based on the Collective Agreement, currently set at $34.58 per hour.
