Job Overview

The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office is recruiting for the position of Admissions/Release Specialist. This clerical role performs the initial intake and processing of individuals entering the Kenosha County Jail, ensuring accurate documentation and record‑keeping. The role also handles financial transactions related to inmate accounts and bail and facilitates the release process.

Responsibilities
  • Receive and process individuals into the Kenosha County Jail, gathering personal information, physical and health conditions, fingerprints, photographs, and related data.
  • Create and maintain accurate physical and electronic inmate records.
  • Verify wanted/warrant checks and other legal documents related to the arrest before initial intake and prior to release.
  • Document inmate cell transfers, scheduled events, visitation, phone conferences, and other visits using jail management software.
  • Interpret and accurately document charges, court documents, and identify when an inmate should be released.
  • Communicate with courts, probation, parole, and other agencies to assist as needed.
  • Identify inmates requiring an initial appearance, prepare court and medical transports, and track court appearances and outcomes.
  • Update and maintain records based on court activity and bond issuance.
  • Receive and process incoming and outgoing inmate mail, maintaining accurate records of inmate accounts and disbursing funds as needed.
  • Monitor the intake security area and inmate video visitation, responding to violations.
  • Answer phone calls, respond to public inquiries regarding inmates, take messages, and refer calls.
  • Monitor a designated email address 24/7 and respond accordingly.
  • Work at the jail counter, relay information, and release jail property.
  • Perform audit functions of inmate records in accordance with record retention policies.
Qualifications
  • Maintain TIME System Certification.
  • Experience in in‑person customer service, reception, or related field with data entry, multi‑tasking, and attention to detail.
  • Preferred experience:

    cash handling, law office or law enforcement agency setting.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English (pay differential available).
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, filing methods, telephone procedures, record‑keeping, Microsoft Office, basic math, and cash handling.
  • Proficiency with office equipment (PC/computer, telephone, fax machine, photocopier, calculator).
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced, multi‑tasking environment, gather, organize, and evaluate data, and apply regulations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing, manage aggressive or emotional behavior from inmates or citizens.
  • Skill in maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and 10 pounds frequently, as well as to move through office and detention areas.
Physical Demands

The position involves light physical demands such as lifting up to 25 pounds occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently, as well as occasional lifting and transporting moderately heavy objects such as files, mail, and other work materials. The employee will frequently work in an indoor environment within a detention center or correctional facility, with exposure to individuals who are rude, irate, or may have violent backgrounds.
