The George
F. DeVine Music Library at the University of Tennessee seeks a Graduate Student Library Assistant (GSLA). This position offers an excellent opportunity for a graduate student to gain hands‑on experience in academic librarianship, public services, outreach, assessment, and project management within a specialized music library environment. The candidate will work 10 hours per week during the academic year, with potential additional hours over summer.
- Provide back‑up staffing at the Music Library service desk during peak hours and assist with daily library operations as needed.
- Assist with maintaining and updating Music Library research guides and online instructional content, including tutorials and information sheets.
- Document library events and activities by collecting attendance statistics, survey responses, photographs, and other assessment data.
- Assist with assessment projects by compiling and organizing usage statistics and other data to support planning and continuous improvement.
- Assist with the preparation and rotation of library exhibits and displays that support College of Music events, performances, and academic programs.
- Represent the Music Library at occasional outreach events.
- Create promotional materials, including flyers, digital signage, social media announcements, newsletters, and other communications.
- Help maintain the Music Library's archive of outreach activities and event photographs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be enrolled as a graduate student at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
- Must be available to work approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a member of a team.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and other standard office software.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Degree in music, music studies, and/or familiarity with music resources.
- Experience creating print or digital promotional materials.
- Interest in assessment, data collection, or user experience.
- Familiarity with Lib Guides or a willingness to learn.
- Interest in academic libraries, music librarianship, or public service.
Compensation is based on the University of Tennessee graduate student hourly pay scale. For the 2027 academic year, the pay rate for this position is $14 per hour and does not include a tuition waiver.
