Position SummaryThe Controls Engineer will work with our Maintenance team and be the subject matter expert with PLCs and VFDs as well as plant operating systems. You will also work with machine operators, supervisors and managers to resolve production equipment issues while implementing continuous improvement practices and efforts. The ideal person for this role is a self‑starter who is not afraid to bring ideas forward and is able to use data to help drive cost efficiencies.
As a Controls Technician Engineer, you will be responsible for maintaining, programming, troubleshooting and optimizing the control systems and automation technologies that support our production process and you will play a critical role in the successful implementation of new automation projects and enhancements to existing systems.
- Monitors electrical, electronic, mechanical control systems and other equipment to ensure proper and efficient operation of equipment.
- Initiates corrective actions as necessary.
- Co‑ordinates mechanical and electrical activities with the Maintenance and Operations teams.
- Performs periodic maintenance of systems.
- Troubleshoots electrical issues of all production equipment and applications.
- Recommends and implements improvements for equipment reliability.
- Maintains parts inventory, electrical and control documentation, equipment manuals, and other associated equipment information.
- Performs general repair and maintenance tasks including equipment changeovers.
- Monitors the work of suppliers to ensure that appropriate electrical installation and repair is accomplished.
- Practices plant safety guidelines and encourages others to always follow safety practices.
- Collaborates with other team members on special projects or equipment upgrades.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- BA/BS Degree in electrical engineering, a combination of school and experience, or 10+ years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
- In‑depth understanding of electrical, electronic and mechanical control systems, including PLC programming (Allen Bradley Controllers highly desired).
- Proficient with Rockwell Automation Software.
- Ability to program and troubleshoot electronic and computer‑based control systems.
- Ability to interpret schematics; electrical and mechanical.
- A basic understanding of engineering design and experience with calculations for electrical and electronic systems.
- Effective communicator with demonstrated ability to solve issues in a team environment and be a technical leader and trainer.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and stand for long periods of time, stooping, bending, twisting.
- Working outside in various weather conditions may also be required.
- Personal protective equipment will be provided by the Company including, but not limited to, glasses, goggles, welding masks, gloves, aprons and hearing protection.
- Appropriate PPE, IAW the NFPA regulations, is also required.
- The workplace is air‑conditioned, heated and well lit.
