Overview

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid seeks a Financial Aid Officer to counsel prospective and current students and their families on sources of financial aid, explain the financial aid process, and ensure compliance with federal, state, and institutional regulations. The role supports training and professional development through membership in national/state financial aid organizations, UW System, and the Department of Education.

Flexibility to work additional hours during peak demand and occasional weekend/evening events is required.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Represent the UW-Parkside Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid at university events and off-campus events, including presentations, FAFSA assistance, and resource tables.
  • Counsel students and families on the financial aid process, required paperwork, budgeting, and payment planning.
  • Assist in collecting documents, explaining requirements, and reviewing documentation for accuracy.
  • Review financial aid applications and assist with awarding various aid programs.
  • Assist in reporting requirements to third-party stakeholders such as scholarship organizations, state agencies, or the Department of Education.
  • Maintain regulatory compliance with federal and state regulations related to financial aid and student data.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Key job responsibilities
  • Triages processes or applications when issues arise.
  • Awards financial aid to qualifying students.
  • Audits financial aid applications for awarding in accordance with policies and regulatory requirements.
  • May hire, train, and supervise student employees.
  • Serves as a point of contact to third-party stakeholders about financial aid information and processes.
  • Assists in collecting, preparing, and analyzing financial aid data for stakeholders.

Compensation: $48,000 annually

Required qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Strong presentation skills
Preferred qualifications
  • Experience with a student information system (e.g., People Soft, Banner, Ellucian)
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations
  • 1+ year of experience in higher education
