Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a 1st Shift Assembly Supervisor to join the Lighting Sector Kenall Team in Kenosha, WI. The Assembly Supervisor reports to the Production Manager and is responsible for the operation of the Assembly Department. The objective is the efficient and effective use of labor, material, tools, equipment and facilities in meeting customer requirements as directed by production schedules issued by Material Control.
The successful Assembly Supervisor will hire, train, assist, maintain morale, and motivate employees. A mutually cooperative working relationship with other supervisors and managers is critical to the overall success of the manufacturing operations and the company.
- LABOR
- Supervise the employees reporting to the Assembly Department, including regular hourly, temporary, and seasonal employees.
- Train all employees in safe work habits and compliance with federal, state and company safety rules; monitor and assure compliance.
- In conjunction with Human Resources, maintain attendance, vacations, training, and disciplinary records.
- Provide assistance and direction to employees on company policies and procedures.
- Review and update Job Description s with Human Resources at least once per year.
- Utilize Skill Set Assessment to evaluate and enhance employee development on an ongoing basis.
- Assist Team Leaders with planning work so laborers, including temporary employees, have a source of work to remain productive; prevent inefficiencies from too many temporary employees.
- Monitor employee attendance records per company policy.
- Demonstrate respect for all employees and maintain a positive attitude at all times.
- MATERIAL
- Direct material handlers in accurately identifying, marking and storing raw material.
- Maintain and review cycle count procedures for Assembly Department inventory.
- Perform weekly inspections of storage areas to ensure racks are undamaged and materials are stored properly.
- Ensure daily scrap and reject reports are processed.
- Ensure daily Return Goods (RGA) processing.
- TOOLING
- Create and maintain an accurate inventory of all tools in the Assembly Department.
- Maintain maintenance history files on tools costing more than $100.
- Recommend and implement improved methods, tooling, and procedures to enhance quality, extend tool life, and increase productivity.
- EQUIPMENT
- Monitor all equipment to keep in top operating condition.
- Train operators to observe and report abnormalities.
- Maintain a maintenance log for each machine, including operator-conducted maintenance (greasing, chip removal, cleaning).
- Report equipment repair needs to the Production Manager and follow up on maintenance items.
- Ensure safe guards are properly installed and used.
- Keep machines running at the maximum designed speed for the job, prioritizing operator and machine safety.
- Assist management in evaluating new equipment as required.
- FACILITIES
- Responsible for interior housekeeping in all areas of the Assembly Department, including proper end-of-shift cleanup and maintenance pickup.
- Ensure no cartons or components are left on the floor within cells and assembly lines at the end of the shift.
- Keep tabletops, bins, and racks in an orderly condition.
- CUSTOMER REQUIREMENTS
- Direct and review production activities to meet schedule requirements according to Material Control generated production schedules.
- Adjust workloads and personnel to meet changing customer requirements.
- Review daily performance of department, section, cell, and assembler to determine productivity levels and take corrective actions as needed.
- GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in ongoing individual training and development.
- Set goals with the Manager and seek ways to improve quality and productivity.
- Maintain good housekeeping in the work area.
- Report abnormalities in equipment, machines, programs, and processes.
- Perform backup functions and engage in cross-training to support back-up efforts; perform other duties as assigned.
- REQUIREMENTS:
- 3 – 5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Basic electrical wiring.
- Lean manufacturing principle knowledge.
- Presentation skills.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills for training and task directions.
- Demonstrated ability to display strong customer service skills.
- Professional appearance and attitude; ability to work with customers, vendors, and employees at all levels.
- Computer literacy including Microsoft Office and AS400 WIN program.
- High level of self-initiative and dependability.
- Flexibility to perform overtime or adjust schedule when required.
- Willingness to pitch in as needed and to be resourceful and highly organized with attention to detail.
- Ability to manage, prioritize and balance multiple tasks; ability to work within a team.
- Positive, can-do attitude.
