The City of Kenosha Department of Parks is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all city parks and beaches, two public swimming pools, numerous flower beds and recreational facilities. The department provides diverse opportunities while preserving parks and open spaces.
The Parks lead worker performs a variety of routine maintenance and operational tasks in support of park facilities and programs. Work is performed primarily outdoors and at various City-owned sites. Duties are carried out in a safe, efficient, and professional manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
Schedule:
Approximately 16-40 hours per week. Shifts and hours include one of the following, but are contingent on weather and operational needs:
- Weekday (Monday–Friday) 7:00 am–3:00 pm or 2:00 pm–10:00 pm
- Weekends (Saturday–Sunday) 2:00 pm–10:00 pm
Please note that City employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one department/division at any one given time. This employment is strictly temporary ("at will") which may be terminated at any time and does not lead to permanent full-time employment.
Under the direction of the Field Supervisor, and/or designee, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Grounds maintenance (i.e. mowing, edging, grooming, trimming, planting, trash and debris pickup)
- Building maintenance (i.e. painting, sweeping, cleaning, trash and debris removal)
- Remove vandalism from buildings, playground equipment and other park structures
- Supervises and provide daily work orders to seasonal staff
- Reports directly to Skilled Maintenance Lead, and/or Field Supervisor, for daily orders and instructions
- Keeps records and inventory
- Assist with athletic field and court maintenance, including marking and preparation
- Set up and remove materials and equipment for special events
- Maintain trees, shrubs, flower beds, and landscaped areas
- Operate City vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and responsible manner
- Inspect equipment and facilities to ensure safety and proper working condition
- Maintain cleanliness of facilities and surrounding areas (i.e. bathrooms, public areas)
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Attend training sessions as required
- Follow and enforce all policies, procedures, and operational guidelines established by the Department
- Perform other related duties as required
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully pass a post-offer drug screening
- Must successfully pass a criminal background check
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid driver's license
- Minimum of one (1) year experience supervising employees
- General knowledge of tools, equipment and vehicles
- General knowledge of athletic and recreational facilities
- General knowledge of safety rules and regulations
- Ability to effectively supervise and lead the work of others
- Ability to operate to tools, equipment and vehicles
- Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm, efficient and responsible manner
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Effective communication skills and ability to exercise sound judgment, courtesy, and tact
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public
- Ability to work the required schedule and hours
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Ability to sit for prolonged periods as needed
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Ability to see clearly, to read instructions, monitor work areas and observe safety conditions
- Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions, alarms, and public inquiries
- Ability to use touch and manual dexterity to handle equipment and perform maintenance tasks
- Ability to perceive environmental conditions, including weather, safety hazards, and respond appropriately
