Seasonal Laborer - Parks ; CDL

Overview

The City of Kenosha Department of Parks is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all city parks and beaches, two public swimming pools, numerous flower beds and recreational facilities. The department provides diverse opportunities while preserving parks and open spaces.

This position performs a variety of routine maintenance and operational tasks in support of park facilities and programs. Work is performed primarily outdoors and at various City-owned sites and properties. Duties are carried out in a safe, efficient, and professional manner in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Schedule:

40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, contingent on weather and operational needs (approximately April thru November). Assignments will require some weekends and occasional extended hours as needed.

Please note that City employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one department/division at any one given time. This employment is strictly temporary ("at will") which may be terminated at any time and does not lead to permanent full-time employment.

• Grounds maintenance (i.e. mowing, edging, grooming, trimming, planting, trash and debris pickup)
• Building maintenance (i.e. painting, sweeping, cleaning, trash and debris removal)
• Remove vandalism from buildings, playground equipment and other park structures
• Performs playground maintenance and upkeep
• Operate City vehicles, tools, and equipment in a safe and responsible manner (i.e. garbage and dump trucks)
• Inspect equipment and facilities to ensure safety and proper working condition
• Maintain cleanliness of facilities and surrounding areas (i.e. bathrooms, public areas)
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance
• Attend training sessions as required
• Follow and enforce all policies, procedures, and operational guidelines established by the Department
• Perform other related duties as required

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must successfully pass a post-offer drug screening
• Must successfully pass a criminal background check
• Must successfully pass a driving record review
• Possession of and ability to maintain a valid CDL:
  Classes B, C and D with no air brake restriction

• General knowledge of tools, equipment and vehicles
• Ability to operate tools, equipment and vehicles
• Ability to respond to emergency situations in a calm, efficient and responsible manner
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
• Effective communication skills and ability to exercise sound judgment, courtesy, and tact
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to maintain positive working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the public
• Ability to work the required schedule and hours

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
• Ability to sit for prolonged periods as needed
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions

• Ability to see clearly, to read instructions, monitor work areas and observe safety conditions
• Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions, alarms, and public inquiries
• Ability to use touch and manual dexterity to handle equipment and perform maintenance tasks
• Ability to perceive environmental conditions, including weather, safety hazards, and respond appropriately
