Job Summary:

The Weld Tank Test Operator is a semi-skilled position that performs inspection of welded tank parts for leaks and/or visually flawed welds. He/she may conduct some basic welding (the joining of metals by applying intense heat) and cutting tasks using gas and/or electric welding equipment to repair leaks/weld flaws in tanks. The Weld Tank Test Operator receives specific work assignments under basic supervision and resolves most problems without supervisory assistance.

• Key skills, abilities and knowledge:
• Basic knowledge of standard welding practices and methods including:
• Inert gas welding (e.g., TIG, MIG).
• Use of soap/water solution testing for leaks similar to gas pipe seal testing.
• Strong ability to read and understand welding specifications, shop drawings, and blueprints.
• Knowledge of properties of welding materials, structural metals and related items.
• Skill in using and maintaining welding equipment and related tools of the trade.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and the ability to follow safe work practices.
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with others.
• Experiential:
  One or more years of general welding experience.
