Yardwaste Attendants work at the City's Yardwaste/Compost site located on Highway H, performing a variety of unskilled and semi‑skilled tasks related to seasonal operations from April through November. The site is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and is closed on Sundays and holidays. Yardwaste Attendants typically work one or two 10‑hour days per week and may require weekend and evening hours on a regular or occasional basis.
This is strictly temporary ("at will") employment which may be terminated at any time and does not lead to permanent full‑time employment.
Please note that City employees (including seasonal employees) may only be employed in one department/division at any one given time.
Yardwaste Attendants Typically Perform The Following Duties- Check the incoming yardwaste and/or items brought to the City's yardwaste/compost site to ensure compliance with yardwaste rules and City ordinances.
- Direct residents to unloading and de‑bagging areas.
- Collect yardwaste coupons from residents.
- Operate a City vehicle to collect/dispose of yard waste materials.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be age 18 or older.
- Must have a high school diploma, GED or HSED.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
- Must pass a driving record review, criminal background check and post‑offer drug screen.
- Knowledge of occupational safety rules and practices.
- Ability to communicate effectively with the general public, provide direction and instruction.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, motor vehicles and light truck.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Ability to enter confined space and perform related assignments.
- Ability to perform physical work in all weather conditions.
- Work is done mainly outdoors. Tasks may require frequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
- Tasks involve the regular, and at times sustained, performance of working over rough or uneven surfaces, bending, stopping, working in confined spaces, and lifting or carrying moderately heavy (20‑50 pound) items and occasionally very heavy (100 pounds or over) items; or may involve operation of gasoline, electric or other powered machinery.
- Tasks may also involve the frequent use of coordination skills in performing a variety of tasks with the full range of hand tools and shop equipment.
- Tasks require perception and discrimination in the sensory areas of: visual, color, sound, odor, depth, and texture.
Previous employees are not guaranteed rehire and are required to complete an online application for consideration. The City will analyze the applicant's education, training and experience.
