The Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) Driver is responsible for providing safe, reliable, and timely transportation for clients to and from medical appointments, healthcare facilities, and other approved destinations. This role requires professionalism, compassion, and a strong commitment to safety and customer service.
Drivers assist clients with entering and exiting the vehicle, including those who use wheelchairs or have limited mobility. They are responsible for properly securing all passengers using safety equipment and ensuring compliance with all transportation regulations and company policies.
The NEMT Driver maintains communication with dispatch to follow assigned schedules, adjust to route changes, and report any delays or incidents. Drivers are expected to operate vehicles in a safe manner at all times, perform basic vehicle inspections, and keep the vehicle clean and presentable.
This position involves working with elderly and disabled individuals, so patience, respect, and reliability are essential. Drivers must maintain confidentiality and treat all clients with dignity.
Key Responsibilities- Transport clients safely and on time to scheduled appointments
- Assist passengers with mobility needs, including wheelchair securement
- Follow routes and schedules provided by dispatch
- Conduct daily vehicle inspections and report maintenance issues
- Maintain cleanliness and professionalism of vehicle
- Communicate effectively with dispatch and management
- Ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Ability to lift and assist passengers when needed
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Reliable attendance and punctuality
