Basic FunctionWe are seeking a full-time research assistant in the Department of Anthropology at Kent State University. The position is funded by National Institute on Aging grants (5 years) to examine the interrelationship of age‑related changes in cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, as well as neurodegenerative diseases, in humans and nonhuman primates to understand their impact on longevity and health span.
Examples of DutiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for performing histology, immunohistochemistry, advanced unbiased stereology, and protein assays. In addition, the candidate will assist in day‑to‑day laboratory management, ordering supplies, training students on experimental techniques, data analyses, scientific presentations, drafting publications, and other duties as assigned by the principal investigators.
Minimum Qualifications- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in neuroscience, biology, biotechnology, or biomedical sciences
- Prior experience (1‑2 years) in a laboratory setting
- Highly motivated, dependable, and consistently on time
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills
- Ability to multi‑task and meet deadlines
- Effective problem‑solving skills
- Adherence to rigorous scientific and ethical standards for research
- Demonstrate professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a team
- Experience with Excel, IBM SPSS, Graph Pad Prism, and Image J software
- Knowledge of human or nonhuman primate neuroanatomy
