Position: Legal Administrative Professional I - Family Support (Internal Applicants Only)

Job Title

Internal Applicants Only This position is open only to current employees of the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. Applicants must serve and pass their six-month probation period in their current position in order to be eligible to apply Supervisor:

Salary:
Range 38 - $29.25 (step one) - $37.08 (step ten) *

Work Schedule:

Monday
- Friday, our core business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Work Location:

In-person/telecommute (hybrid);
Three days in-office required; 724 West Smith Street, Suite 101, Kent WA 98032. An alternative schedule is subject to supervisor approval.

Any change in the position or work group will be determined by the needs of the Family Support Division.

Job Duties

Process various motions, orders, and documents in parentage actions, such as summary judgments, continuances, dismissals, genetic tests, and Guardian ad Litems, which can involve copying, mailing, scanning and e-filing documents with the court and performing data entry in SEMS (Support Enforcement Management System). This may include preparing and completing certificates of mailing, making copies, and e-filing them with the court

Copy, mail, and send parentage petitions out for service

Perform basic locate work using available computer systems

Confirm the court calendar

Provide regular support for the reception functions of the office, including answering phones, handling in person customers, screening reception voice mail messages and faxes, processing incoming and outgoing mail

May be assigned the orientation and/or training of co-workers

Maintain and update physical files

Must be able to work independently or as part of a team and interact appropriately with others

Actively participate in PAO equity work, attending equity trainings and discussions

Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Knowledge of general office principles and practices; legal office experience or training helpful

Knowledge of legal procedures

Knowledge of basic alphabetizing, filing and mathematics

Knowledge of proper English grammar, usage and spelling

Knowledge of the operation of standard office equipment, such as personal computer, scanner, copier, mail machine, and multi-line telephone

Keyboarding skills

Ability to maintain office confidentiality

Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to provide information, based on acquired job knowledge and overview, to the public and employees and agencies

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, clients and others

Skill in working independently or as a team member

Skill in organizing and prioritizing

Skill in remaining objective, nonjudgmental, and sensitive with ability to conduct business in a professional manner

Skill in interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including clients and other agency personnel

Customer service skills in person and via telephone (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism)

Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance

Ability to follow written and verbal directions and complete assigned tasks on schedule

Ability to read, write, and communicate in English and understand basic math

Ability to learn from directions, observations, and mistakes, and apply procedures using good judgment

Ability to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling and/or action/discipline

PAO employees who are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117 will receive priority consideration. There exists a broken rung in many organizations that can make attaining formal positions challenging to historically excluded groups. We are not requesting a detailed expression of interest, as we prefer to keep barriers for applying low and will look forward to hearing about experience and aspirations for the role during the interview process.

Selection Process

Per the Collective Bargaining Agreement, qualified bargaining unit members will be invited to participate in a panel interview process.

* Employees with less than 2 years of service will receive.
25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of Teamsters Local No. 117.
