Camp WALKAPALA Day Camp Counselor

Hours: 40 hours per week
Camp runs from June 24-August 7
Mandatory Training Dates:
June 19, 22, and 23, 2026
Mandatory Parent Night:
June 23, 2026
Interviews:

Applicants must be available for in‑person interviews
Hourly Rate: $ per hour, depending on experience
Duties: Under the direction of the Adaptive and Youth/Teen Manager and Program Coordinator and Camp Co‑Directors, plan and lead daily activities for children ages 5‑12.
Camp consists of approximately 70 campers and 10 staff members. Activities include field trips, sports, games, arts and crafts, and inclusive camp activities with adaptive recreation.
Minimum Qualifications- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Possess a valid CPR and Standard First Aid Card by start date.
- Must be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, trustworthy, and remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to be sensitive and responsive to the needs of all the campers.
- Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with multiple distractions and competing priorities.
- Applicants are subject to Washington State background check.
- Other requirements include three personal and/or work references.
- One (1) year or more of experience working with children in recreation, teaching, or day camp environment.
- Knowledge of age appropriate athletic and social activities, crafts, and other large group activities for children between K‑6 (Fall 2026).

- Must be able to physically play and demonstrate active games, work with arts and crafts materials.
- Outdoor recreational environment subject to noise that varies from low to high, distractions, seasonal heat, adverse weather conditions and periodic interruptions.
- Exposure to extended periods of direct sunlight and/or cool and damp weather is possible.
- Strong stamina and ability to keep up with campers.
