Job Description
Instruct students individually or in small groups under teacher direction.
- Instruct students individually or in small groups under teacher direction.
- Assist in implementing goals and objectives of students' Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Prepare and adapt lessons and classroom activities as directed by the teacher.
- Plan, prepare, and assemble homework activities for students.
- Assist and instruct students in computer usage and operation.
- Monitor groups and maintain awareness of student emotional and physical needs, reporting to teachers as needed.
- Maintain and assist with student discipline and positive behavior management.
- Supervise students during school activities including assemblies, recess, and bus arrival/departure.
- Attend to personal hygiene needs of students, including diapering, toileting, catheterization, dressing, wheelchair transfer, and feeding if necessary.
- Participate in planned student therapy activities under supervision of specialists.
- Use first aid and CPR when qualified and attend to medical needs as trained.
- Clean classroom areas after snack times.
- Use minimal ASL signing as needed.
- Correct student papers and keep progress records.
- Score standardized or content-area student tests.
- Assist evaluation of student progress.
- Prepare classroom materials and bulletin boards as directed.
- Develop and maintain filing systems as needed.
- Ability to work independently and learn operations and use of equipment, particularly computers.
- Sound and independent judgment including handling confidential matters.
- Organizational skills and ability to set priorities effectively.
- Clear and courteous communication skills.
- Flexibility and adaptability to changes on short notice.
- Physical ability adequate for student hygiene and mobility assistance.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of higher education study (72 quarter credits); or an associate's or higher degree; or demonstrated ability through formal academic assessment in assisting with reading, writing, or mathematics instruction.
