Kent Youth and Family Services (KYFS) is hiring Teacher Assistants for our Summer Splash Program. This position is responsible for assisting children aged Kindergarten through 6th grade in the development of their academic skills.
Job Type / SchedulePart time, Monday to Friday beginning in mid June through the end of the program, which runs through the end of August. Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the demands of the program.
BenefitsThis position is eligible for state mandated benefits only.
Duties / Qualifications / Misc- Experience working with youth and children, babysitting, camp counselor, tutoring, or other similar experience preferred.
- Helps develop, implement and assist with educational programs activities as they pertain to the academic programming among youth during Summer Splash program.
- Assist with overseeing classroom management, conflict resolution and behavioral issues with and between youth, with a focus on positive discipline, consistent consequences, restorative justice and the values of honesty, respect, safety, cooperation and responsibility.
- Engage in academic activities with selected students either one‑on‑one or with small groups.
- Assist children aged Kindergarten through sixth grade mainly in the development of reading and math skills.
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with supervisor, co‑workers, volunteers, participants, parents other service providers, and community residents.
- Help network within the community to determine community needs and resources available for use in program development.
- Write monthly site reports and maintain daily site attendance, incident and accident forms, and other pertinent reports/records.
- Assist in maintaining daily operations and maintenance of site.
- Must pass a Washington State Patrol and federal criminal background check.
- This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include early evenings to meet the needs of the program and its participants.
- Physical agility to participate and supervise youth recreational activities.
