Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing – Washington Service Center

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

In alignment with NWRESD’s mission, this position provides academic and communication intervention for deaf and hard‑of‑hearing students, serving as the primary instructor in classrooms tailored to these learners. Duties include developing IEPs/IFSPs, assisting general education teachers, and providing direct or consultative services to support oral, written, and signed language development.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • • Current Oregon teaching license through TSPC, with Deaf/HH endorsement or the ability to obtain one within the district‑specified timeline.
  • • Advanced‑level proficiency in American Sign Language.
  • • Prior experience in general education preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Assess children for language, social, and cognitive development.
  • Establish and reinforce developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Participate on eligibility, IFSP/IEP, and 3‑year reevaluation teams.
  • Develop short‑term objectives and long‑term goals for communication and academics.
  • Provide instruction in language development and academic subjects.
  • Work with general education teachers to implement instructional programs.
  • Provide requisite data to the district and supervisor.
  • Provide orientations about deafness/hearing loss to district staff as requested.
  • Write lesson plans understandable for teachers and substitutes.
  • Monitor amplification device usage and instruct students on care.
  • Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with staff and customers at all organizational levels.
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
