Youth Pastor Job Description

IntroductionThere is a call of God on every individual to be “set apart” as God’s servant in ministry. Pastors are, first and foremost, servants of our Lord Jesus Christ. Authentic leadership in the church is about servant leadership, just as Jesus came to serve and not to be served.
The Youth Pastor is first and foremost accountable to God. They report to the senior pastor and are accountable to the elder board and the congregation at HCC, specifically the youth and their families. They are responsible for developing and casting a vision for Hockinson’s Youth Ministry in line with the mission, vision, and values of HCC.
Though the primary duties and accountability are with the youth of Hockinson Community Church, the youth pastor is also a partner with the senior pastor and the elder team for the care and shepherding of the body. The Youth Pastor is also responsible for taking a regular sabbath and maintaining healthy boundaries and self-care.
Duties TeachingThe Youth Pastor is responsible for spreading the message of Jesus and teaching the Word to students. Specific duties include:
- Overseeing the teaching ministry
- For Example:
Youth Group, Sunday School, Retreats, Camps - Developing a “scope and sequence” plan to provide direction to the teaching
- Serving as a primary teacher while developing and coordinating other teachers
- Be open to other teaching opportunities (Sunday Preaching, graduations, etc)
- For Example:
- Time in the Word and study
- Investment in personal and professional growth
The Youth Pastor is responsible for overseeing the discipleship, equipping, and development of students and leaders. Specific duties include:
- Develop a lifestyle that allows for relational discipleship to happen
- Invite students/leaders to participate and partner in the work of ministry
- Assist and encourage students and leaders to be disciple-makers
- Identify where students are and give them a “next step” in their walk with Jesus
The Youth Pastor is responsible for overseeing the care of student's spiritual, emotional, and relational needs. Specific duties include:
- Seeks/pursues/shows up/interested in students lives
- Available for involvement/support during crises
- Pray with and for students
- Check-in with absent students
The Youth Pastor is responsible for providing leadership to the youth ministry. Specific duties include:
- Serve everyone as an example of Christ’s service
- Developing and leading a group of leaders (students and adults) for their growth and to multiply ministry
- Provide direction/make decisions for teaching, camps, retreats, events
- Clear and timely communication with parents and other church leaders
- Oversight of planning and execution of events, retreats, etc
- Connect and serve local schools and community
Salary is comprised of:
- Financial Compensation of $24,000 per year
- Housing in church parsonage, including utilities and internet, estimated value is $30,000 per year
- Medical and Dental Insurance for Pastoral Staff
