Educational Interpreter - Kent, WA

Qualifications:

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills
• Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in K-12 schools
• National Interpreter Certification (NIC), EIPA, or relevant state certification (or eligibility)
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, teachers, and support staff
• Confidential, professional, and adaptable to varying classroom needs
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary educational team

Responsibilities:

• Provide direct interpreting services in classrooms and school events, ensuring clear communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students
• Adapt and adjust interpreting style to fit various classroom activities and student needs
• Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate the full inclusion of students in general education and extracurricular activities
• Maintain accurate records of assignments and confidential student information
• Participate in IEP meetings, staff trainings, or consultations as needed
• Stay current with best practices, professional development, and ethical guidelines related to educational interpreting
