Job Overview

The Spanish Reading Interventionist provides targeted, research‑based literacy instruction to students who require additional support in developing foundational reading skills in Spanish. This role focuses on accelerating student growth in phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension through small‑group and individualized instruction.

The interventionist collaborates closely with classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and families to ensure student progress and alignment with school‑wide literacy goals.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Provide targeted, high‑quality literacy intervention in Spanish through small‑group and individualized instruction for students identified as needing additional support.
  • Deliver evidence‑based reading instruction aligned with the science of reading, structured literacy practices, and the school's dual‑language/biliteracy model.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized intervention plans that address students' specific literacy needs and accelerate academic growth.
  • Support students in the development of foundational literacy skills, including phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, writing, and oral language development.
  • Differentiation of instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of multilingual learners and students with varying levels of literacy proficiency.
  • Foster biliteracy by helping students make connections between Spanish and English language and literacy skills when appropriate.
  • Create and adapt engaging, culturally responsive, and linguistically appropriate instructional materials.
  • Maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, confidence, and academic success.
  • Administer literacy screeners, diagnostic assessments, benchmark assessments, and progress‑monitoring tools in accordance with school and program requirements.
  • Analyze student achievement data to identify needs, develop intervention groups, and adjust instructional strategies.
  • Monitor student progress regularly and maintain accurate records of intervention services, growth, and outcomes.
  • Use data to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and make recommendations for continued support, referral, or exit from intervention services.
  • Prepare reports and documentation as required for student support teams, school leadership, and family communication.
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers to align intervention goals with core literacy instruction and classroom learning objectives.
  • Participate actively in Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), Response to Intervention (RTI), Student Support Team (SST), and data review meetings.
  • Partner with special education teachers, ESL specialists, instructional coaches and related service providers to ensure coordinated support for students.
  • Share effective literacy strategies and instructional resources with teachers to strengthen school‑wide literacy practices.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school‑wide literacy initiatives and improvement efforts.
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, intervention goals, and strategies to support literacy development at home.
  • Conduct family conferences and meetings in Spanish and/or English, as appropriate.
  • Promote meaningful family engagement through partnerships between the school, families, community organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Support family literacy initiatives and provide resources that empower families to support student learning.
  • Participate in family outreach efforts, including Flamboyan home visits and other family engagement programs.
  • Serve as a literacy resource for staff, students, and families regarding Spanish literacy development and biliteracy best practices.
  • Support the school's dual‑language mission by promoting high expectations for bilingualism, biliteracy, academic achievement, and sociocultural competence.
