The job of SpEd Para II is to provide support to the instructional program under the direction of an assigned classroom teacher with responsibility for supervising, caring for, and instructing special needs students in the classroom. The role assists in implementing instruction plans, monitoring behavior, and providing information to appropriate school personnel.
Essential Functions- Adapts classroom activities and materials under the supervising teacher’s direction to support classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a healthcare professional.
- Assists students with self-care activities (e.g., toileting, washing, changing diapers, eating, dressing, grooming) to maintain personal hygiene.
- Attends job-specific trainings (first aid, behavior management) to acquire and convey information related to job functions.
- Collects data to support teachers and prepare reports or processing forms.
- Communicates with supervising staff and professional support personnel to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions.
- Maintains instructional materials and records, ensuring availability and compliance with mandated requirements.
- Monitors students during periods in various school environments to maintain a safe, positive learning environment.
- Provides instruction under supervising teacher in individual and group activities to reinforce instructional objectives and IEP plans.
- Attends meetings and in-service presentations to acquire knowledge related to job functions.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Minimum age: 16 years old.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience desired.
