This position will be responsible for teaching band and/or orchestra to elementary students. The assignment includes teaching General Music classes to students in grades K-5 and beginning instruments (band and/or orchestra) to grade 5 students. This position may also include facilitating performances and festivals.
Qualifications- Appropriate Washington State certi?cation in Instrumental Music is required and must be on ?le prior to beginning work.
- Major in instrumental music is preferred.
- A master's degree is preferred.
- Ability to work positively with diverse sta? and students is required.
- The ability to demonstrate proper techniques for traditional band and orchestra instruments is required.
- Candidate must have a proven commitment to an exemplary comprehensive music program, enthusiasm, and skills necessary to maintain and continue to improve a high achieving instrumental program.
- Ability and willingness to recruit and encourage participation from students from diverse backgrounds and levels.
- Must maintain a positive learning environment and have the ability to relate to all students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience working with elementary school students preferred.
- Experience in, and ability to teach both band and orchestra instruments preferred.
- Experience with Orff, World Drumming, and fretted instruments (guitar, and ukulele) preferred.
- Desired teacher characteristics are: ?exibility; ability to organize ideas, time and materials to accomplish goals; enthusiasm; ability to express ideas clearly and understand concepts being discussed; ability to learn new ideas and skills; ability and willingness to develop favorable relationships with students; knowledge of current approaches to teaching; and willingness to model behavior deemed appropriate by the school district and the community.
