About the Position

This is a 1.0 FTE continuing contract position for a Reading Interventionist(.6 FTE) and English Language Arts Teacher (.4 FTE) at Alderwood Middle School that begins with the 2026-27 school year.
Preference will be given to candidates that are Bilingual andcurrently have an ELL, ESOL, or Bilingual endorsement.

LETRS training offered by the Title/LAP Department is required unless already completed. SIOP and GLAD training offered by the Multilingual Education Department will be required for all new employees unless they can show evidence of having completed this training previously. Incomplete LETRS, SIOP, and GLAD training will need to be completed within the first year of employment.
Reading Interventionists work directly with students, teachers, and Title I/LAP program staff to provide intervention and expertise in literacy. The Reading Interventionist role includes delivering small group, structured literacy intervention using district provided curriculum, coordinating literacy assessments for students specified in the district assessment plan, analyzing and reporting assessment data, organizing and scheduling intervention groups, monitoring student progress, and on-going communication with classroom teachers and families.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate, manage, schedule, and provide targeted reading intervention to meet the needs of students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to identify best practices for individual and small groups of students.
  • Follow district guidelines for reading intervention and use adopted reading intervention curriculum.
  • Coordinate literacy screening tool and related progress monitoring plan.
  • Identify students eligible for intervention using district Decision Rules.
  • Assist student support team and MTSS teams in analyzing and interpreting assessment data.
  • Conduct frequent progress monitoring with designated district screeners and diagnostic assessments.
  • Maintain data-based documentation to evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Provide regular communication with teachers, administration, and families regarding student reading progress.
  • Attend required literacy intervention training, district job-alike meetings, and staff meetings.
Required Qualifications

Washington State Teaching Certificate with an endorsement in English Language Arts and either an endorsement in Reading or experience teaching in a structured literacy program or providing intervention support to students needing extra support in literacy.
