Title: Lecturer Part Time in Chemistry

Position Description

The Department of Sciences and Mathematics (School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences) at the University of Washington Tacoma invites applications for part-time lecturer in Chemistry with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2026. We seek applicants who demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching in a diverse and inclusive academic community.

The successful candidate will join our faculty on a part-time ; 30-75%
FTE basis for a nine-month academic year (September 16
- June 15) , one-year, renewable appointment beginning September 16, 2026.

The base salary range for this position will be $4,480-$4,800 per month at 0.80 FTE commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform highly effective and inclusive teaching, using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technologies, in an urban-serving campus environment. They will be prepared to teach courses serving students from majors including engineering, environmental science, and biomedical sciences.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach primarily in our general chemistry series (TCHEM 142, 152, 162), including lecture and laboratory instruction. Instruction in other disciplines (such as organic chemistry or biochemistry) may be possible, depending on candidate experience and department need.

Qualifications

Applicants for this instructional faculty position must meet the following minimum qualifications:

Earned Ph.D. or M.S. degree (or foreign equivalent) in a related field at the time of appointment. Priority will be given to candidates with previous experience teaching at higher ed institutions.
