Job Overview
The Field Service Engineer provides highly visible customer support through the performance of on-site installation, diagnosis, troubleshooting, service, and repair of complex equipment and systems. The engineer instructs customers in operation and maintenance, and serves as the company liaison for administrative and technical matters. This role may include any aspect of field support beyond system hardware and software, including PCs, networking, wireless networking, and related service.
Job Responsibilities- Perform installations, maintenance, validations, and repairs while ensuring compliance with Perkin Elmer’s service standards and key performance indicators.
- Engage with customers to understand analytical workflows and tailor service offerings, including training, support, and upgrades.
- Enhance account profitability through efficient service execution and by identifying revenue opportunities such as billable work, consumables, and service leads.
- Maintain assigned assets, including tools, test equipment (MTE), telecommunications equipment, and service parts inventory.
- Proactively report improvement opportunities via the quality notification process.
- Participate in company-sponsored training and development, including higher‑level certification.
- Complete all administrative tasks, including time reporting and assigned training.
- Maintain training and compliance in health, safety, security, environmental, and operational aspects of daily activities in the working environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong technical critical‑thinking skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service orientation with the ability to listen to and interpret client requests.
- Aptitude for technical and practical matters.
- Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Excellent team player with a focus on customer satisfaction.
- Ability to follow and create written and verbal directions, read and understand technical bulletins and service manuals, work under time constraints, maintain alertness and concentration, and work safely with potential hazards.
- BA in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline (including military experience) plus 3 years of direct experience repairing laboratory equipment.
- Associate Degree in Applied Science, Biology, Chemistry, Electronics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related discipline (including military experience) plus 5 years of direct experience repairing laboratory equipment.
- High School Diploma plus 7+ years of direct experience repairing laboratory equipment.
- Detailed knowledge of analytical equipment, laboratory environment, and/or instrument control software.
- Vendor‑issued certification on relevant laboratory equipment.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety practices as defined by the company and/or customer’s site safety code.
- Ability to travel by air, vehicle, and/or other means of transportation as business requires (up to 50% of the time).
- Valid driver’s license and safe motor vehicle operation.
- Company‑provided car, laptop, and phone.
- Must be able to work in a laboratory and controlled environments requiring personal protective equipment (lab coat, safety glasses, etc.).
- Job pace may be fast with high completion demands; requires staying stationary >25% of the time and occasional movement throughout the lab.
- Occasional lifting up to 25lb (potential for up to 50lb).
- Requires vision for close‑range details, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Must handle hazardous waste within local, state, and federal regulations.
- May require medical clearance and respirator training.
The annual compensation range for this full‑time position is $65,000.00 to $85,000.00. The final base pay will be determined by internal equity, work location, and individual qualifications.
