Job Title: Avionics Technician
Location: Kent, WA
Job Type: Contract to Hire
Hours: 40/week
Pay Rate: $40.16 - $42.84/hr
Shift: Monday‑Thursday 5:00 am to 3:30 pm

This role is part of the Engines, In‑Space Systems and Test Ops group and is located in Kent, WA while supporting all Business Units and groups across all facilities.

As part of a hardworking team of technicians, you will assemble, repair, and evaluate electrical and mechanical assemblies for various spaceflight systems. You will share in the team’s impact on all aspects of the production, evaluation, and development of flight‑grade avionics. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in soldering, component‑level board work, mechanical assembly, and wiring.

Responsibilities
  • Build components and assemblies for all groups across Blue Origin in development, test, and flight environments.
  • Assist with assembly of new and updated designs by working directly with engineering to determine best practices.
  • Provide regular input on manufacturing improvement opportunities and build changes to increase efficiency.
  • Serve both internal and external customers across multiple systems and platforms; each technician is a valued part of the chain that supports safe human spaceflight.
  • Focus on safety, collaborative teamwork, and quality, balancing speed and safety to create high‑quality components that propel future astronauts and payloads into space.
Qualifications
  • Familiarity working in an ESD, EPA and with tool control/accountability processes.
  • Experience using standard electronics assembly tools, hand soldering, and basic electronic test equipment (multimeters and power supplies).
  • Experience applying torque to fasteners and components.
  • Fabricating, terminating, and repairing/test wiring harnesses.
  • 3 or more years of experience in aerospace avionics or related fields.
  • Experience inspecting and certifying work performed to relevant standards and specifications.
  • Attention to detail and passion for space.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work a 40‑hour week (4×10 hrs) with occasional overtime to support launch schedules.
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
  • Experience with application and removal of polymerics (staking, potting, encapsulation and conformal coating).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5–7 years of experience in launch vehicle or propulsion system assembly fabrication, CCA or PCBA repair, or component replacement.
  • Experience with energized power/high‑voltage systems, battery systems, or RF assemblies.
  • Certification and/or knowledge of IPC standards for assembly and inspection.
  • Knowledge of J‑STD, J‑STD Space, 610, 7711/7721 Rework and 620/620 Space Addendum.
  • Experience interfacing with Microsoft Office Suite, electronic work orders, and configuration management systems.
  • Experience documenting nonconformances and carrying out dispositioned repairs.
